In the First Quarter of 1404 (March 20 – June 20, 2025), 29% of Total Electricity Transactions Were Conducted Outside the Wholesale Market

According to a report by the Over-the-Counter Electricity Transactions Management Office, the total volume of over-the-counter electricity transactions (including both Iran Energy Exchange and bilateral contracts) during the first quarter of 1404 (from March 20 to June 20, 2025) reached approximately 28 billion kilowatt-hours.

As reported by the Electricity Market Deputy, from the beginning of 1404 (March 20, 2025) through the end of Khordad 1404 (June 20, 2025), over-the-counter transactions accounted for 29% of total electricity trades—equivalent to about 28 billion kilowatt-hours. Of this share, 22% was traded via the Iran Energy Exchange, and 7% through bilateral contracts.

Moreover, during Khordad 1404 (May 21 – June 20, 2025), the total volume of over-the-counter electricity transactions reached around 9 billion kilowatt-hours, representing approximately 24% of all electricity trades during that month.

It is also worth noting that the total volume of electricity transactions from the beginning of 1404 (March 20, 2025) through the end of Khordad 1404 (June 20, 2025) amounted to 97 billion kilowatt-hours, with 36 billion kilowatt-hours traded in Khordad 1404 (May 21 – June 20, 2025) alone.
