Message from Managing Director: Perusing the
electricity industry restructuring process, Iran
Electricity Market (IREMA) was established in
November 2003. At the beginning, the total vol-
ume of trades was 152,836 GWh and the respected
turnover was 19,210 billion Rials. These quantities
will reach 309,304 GWh and 230,880 billion Rials
in 2020 respectively. Day-ahead wholesale electricity market, Energy
Exchange, and bilateral contracts constitute the trading environments
that are currently functioning within IREMA. Recently, an intraday
market has been introduced which is under trial-run and is seen to be
fully activated in January 2021. Iran Grid Management Company, as
the administrative arm of the Iran Ministry of Energy in the field of
electricity market and power system control, thoroughly supports the
long term governmental policies for increasing the trades via bilateral
contracts and Energy Exchange. I hope that this annual report clearly
reflects the strong potential of IREMA to evolve even further, and
provides the market participants and researchers with a transparent
overview of IREMA.
